City Housing Authority to Share Tear-Down Plan

S.A. Reid - Atlanta Journal-Constitution - 2/14/07

Atlanta, GA - The Atlanta Housing Authority today is scheduled to share with residents its plans to demolish a dozen of its most dilapidated family communities and senior high rises. The meeting is scheduled for noon at the Antoine Graves Annex, 110 Hilliard St.

The agency hopes to have 9,600 residents relocated and more 3,000 units demolished by 2010.

Affected residents will receive federal housing subsidy vouchers that will allow them to rent anywhere in the country. Specialized facilities for elderly and disabled residents will continue to be offered.

With the planned demolition, the AHA moves a step closer to its long-term goal of eliminating traditional public housing in Atlanta and providing residents with better access to other affordable-housing options.
